Overview

Web to Visual is a Chrome extension that helps you capture web page content and export it as images (PNG, JPEG, PDF) or styled template cards.

We do not operate a user account system for the free tier. The extension runs primarily on your device. We do not collect, store, or sell your personal data on our own servers.

This policy explains what data the extension handles, where it is stored, which permissions we request, and when third-party services are used.

Data stored locally on your device

The extension stores the following data in Chrome local storage (chrome.storage.local) on your computer. This data never leaves your device unless you explicitly export or copy it.

You can remove stored data at any time by clearing the extension's storage in Chrome, uninstalling the extension, or using in-app controls (for example, deleting history entries or removing your API key in Settings).

  • Extension settings — template choice, export width/scale, format, watermark, Premium toggle
  • Capture history — saved previews and metadata so you can re-download or edit later
  • Custom templates — JSON template definitions you create
  • OpenRouter API key (optional) — used only if you enter one in Settings for AI section splitting

Data processed temporarily

When you capture a page, the extension reads content from the active tab only when you initiate a capture. That content is used in memory to generate previews and exports. We do not upload captured page content to our servers.

Permissions

Web to Visual requests the following Chrome permissions. Each is used only to provide the features described below. We do not use these permissions for advertising, tracking, or background data collection.

  • activeTab — Access the current tab when you click capture, so we can read or screenshot the page you chose
  • scripting — Inject capture scripts on demand when you start a capture
  • sidePanel — Show the main extension UI in Chrome's side panel
  • storage — Save your settings, history, custom templates, and optional API key locally
  • downloads — Save exported PNG, JPEG, PDF, or ZIP files to your computer
  • tabs — Identify which tab you are capturing from
  • Host access (<all_urls>) — Run capture logic on web pages you choose to capture. We do not access pages unless you use the extension
  • Host access (https://openrouter.ai/*) — Send optional AI requests when you configure an OpenRouter API key and use AI section splitting

Third-party services

If you enable Premium AI section splitting and provide your own OpenRouter API key, extracted markdown text (not your full browsing history) may be sent to OpenRouter to suggest section boundaries. Requests use your API key and are governed by OpenRouter's privacy policy. If you do not add an API key, no data is sent to OpenRouter.

We do not receive or store your OpenRouter API key on any server we operate. It remains in your browser's local storage.

The extension does not include analytics, advertising SDKs, or crash-reporting services at this time. If that changes, we will update this policy and the Chrome Web Store listing before shipping an update.

What we do not collect

Unless you contact us directly (for example, by email for support), we do not collect:

  • Your name, email, or account credentials
  • Browsing history
  • Captured page content on our servers
  • Payment information (billing is not integrated in the current version)

Children's privacy

Web to Visual is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Data security

Data stored by the extension remains on your device under Chrome's extension security model. You are responsible for securing your device and any optional API keys you choose to store.

Your choices

  • Do not use AI features — leave the OpenRouter API key blank to keep all processing local
  • Clear history — delete individual entries or clear history in the extension
  • Remove the API key — use Settings to remove your stored OpenRouter key
  • Uninstall — removing the extension deletes its local storage data from Chrome

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy when the extension changes (for example, new features, permissions, or third-party integrations). We will update the last updated date at the top. Material changes will be reflected in the Chrome Web Store listing where required.
